Why Choose Keystone?
We asked students, teachers and parents why they chose Keystone Schools. See what they said:
(Put the mouse over the text to stop.)
"My favorite thing about school is Math. "I'm proud of my Math grade!"
Daniel Cubias - 3rd grade student
"There is a lot of school spirit here. Everyone here is really nice."
Morgan Bond - 4th grade student
"I like all the special classes we have (computer, PE, art, library, Spanish)."
Katelynne Baughman - 8th grade student
"I like having teachers who care. The teachers at Keystone are awesome. I enjoy all the opportunities that students have in the area of music."
Paige Eavey - Class of 2008 student
"It's very comfortable here. I like the administration of the school. Students receive a better education and have better relationships with teachers. Everyone here gets along and it's not cliquish."
Adam Neumeyer - Class of 2008 student
"I like the small class size. Students are not just another person in the crowd. We have really good teachers here and a good course selection. We have things that no one else has, such as Organic Chemistry."
Melissa Ross - 1st grade teacher, Laverne Campus
"The proficiency-based education is very effective. The kids are excited and feeling successful. It's great to see kids where they need to be in spite of their age."
Paula Hauser - 4th grade teacher, Laverne Campus
"I am very enthusiastic about our move toward proficiency-based assessment and instruction. I see the problems as minor. I think the kids like it. Students are benefiting from being placed with students of like abilities and needs in reading and math. They feel good about their learning. The time schedule has worked out well as the students and teachers have gotten into the groove of switching. I think most of the students I've observed have taken ownership of their academic responsibilities and are putting good effort into learning. The kids really like the projects and choices we've offered and it has been both challenging and fun."
Joe Habegger - Technology teacher, Director of Athletics
"We have a solid staff and faculty, working cohesively. The NWEA testing, differentiation, and acceleration options are wonderful for students. We have great student-teacher ratios. I'm eager to advance our technology department."
Julie Laur - Instrumental music teacher
"Recently I've been dwelling on how our four pillars match the four elements of that verse in Deuteronomy; it is so refreshing and rewarding to build a life on God's Word! We teach to all four pillars in the music classroom. Students are developing physical skills through daily practice; they are learning musical theory and history that reinforce spatial thinking skills and many other brain functions - scientists are still discovering benefits of making music, from improved logical thinking skills to better health. Music connects students to their spiritual natures in a way no other avenue can communicate. This is why music is such a powerful form of worshipping God, one that we embrace wholeheartedly. And life experiences-the camaraderie developed during competition and stage performances is amazing. Students learn to work together as a team in music ensembles for the good of the entire group, a necessary life skill that they will use day-in, day-out for years to come.
Keystone is a place where life-learning is taking place. Students and staff members are gaining skills that go far beyond standardized testing; we are truly learning to "love the Lord (our) God with all (our) hearts (life experiences), souls (spiritual formation), minds (academic rigor), and strength (physical development)." I am blessed to work at a school where God's Word is esteemed and lived out by students and faculty seeking to honor Him with their lives."
Bob Lovell - Middle and High School Math teacher
"Teaching the Middle School Mathematics Enrichment class has been the most fun I've had in 42 years of teaching. The energy, enthusiasm and mathematical insights that the students bring to the class are outstanding. I have been able to introduce advanced mathematical topics that allow the students to explore and make discoveries. I just need to get out of the way!"
Steve Riethmiller - High school science teacher
"The Math and Language Arts proficiency-placement works well for the mass majority. We've had some bumps, but it's been very smooth overall. There are more opportunities for students at Keystone. We're a student-focused school and our small numbers help accommodate students."
Mr. Tucker - Parent of 6th grade student
"The first person I spoke to when I looked into Keystone immediately started helping me and made me feel welcome. The sense of family was there from day one."
